Tampa Firefighter Matthew Bunch Support Fund

Friends of Tampa Fire Rescue,

As many of you know, Driver-Engineer Matt Bunch was diagnosed with Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC) shortly after his 27th birthday. Since then, and as a result of this disease, he has contracted liver cancer which has recently spread to his abdomen. He is currently receiving palliative care at Tampa General Hospital.

Over the last week, I have been asked many questions about Matt. "What can I do for him?" "How can I help?" "Does his family need anything?" "Should I go by and visit?" "How long does he have?"

Right now Matt is fighting for his life. His family has temporarily limited visitors to family and close friends. Matt's mother (Joy) is keeping us updated as to his status. He has his good days and his bad days. She has told me that if he is having a good day, she will let us know and he will be able to see visitors. I promise you that as soon as I know something, I will pass it along to all of you.

How can we help? His parents and his family would like to focus on keeping Matt comfortable and would like to spend as much time with him as possible. We would like to reach out to everyone and ask if you can make a donation (through Local 754). A PayPal account has been set-up so they can accept all forms of payment. Please donate something - $10, $15, $20, $50, or whatever you can. Again, your donation will be through IAFF Local 754, so it will be monitored by the union. Your donation will be used to offset his medical expenses and provide meals and essentials for his family so that they can focus on caring for Matt. It might allow for his parents to close their photography shop for a few days and just hang with him or whatever.

His family has no idea that we are making this request. The crews at "The Big House" just felt that this is a way that everyone can help to ease some of the burden that is being shouldered by his family.

This is what we can do for Matt right now. This is how we can be there for his family. I know Matt would do the same for all of you. So please help!

Thank you in advance for your generosity,
